Book Report Sample B

Romeo & Juliet  by William Shakespeare

4D (14) Feng Jie Neng

Romeo & Juliet is a very famous play written by William Shakespeare. Many themes are explored in this play, the most important of which is love, hatred and fate.

This play shows us many kinds of love. One type of love is ‘infatuation’ , ‘puppy love’ being of this type, which many teenagers fall into. They don’t realize that their feelings are actually an obsession, not true love. Romeo’s love for Rosaline is an example of this.

Most importantly, we can see true love in this play. This love is so strong that Romeo & Juliet will even sacrifice their lives for it.

This play also has an important lesson about hatred. It shows how love can be destroyed by it. Hatred always lead to tragedy, as in the needless deaths of Romeo & Juliet. It’s too late that the Capulets and Montagues learn this lesson through the deaths of their children. Because of their ancient grudge, they have lost their only children. Luckily, the tragic love affair between Romeo & Juliet ended this feud.

Finally, Shakespeare addresses his idea of fate. At the beginning of the play, he mentions that Romeo & Juliet are ‘star-crossed’ lovers. This means that whatever they do, they cannot escape their destiny. They are doomed never to be happy together. But in the end, they cannot overcome the fate that has already been destined for them.

I learn such a good lesson from this play. I hope I can learn more and enrich my life.

Japan Air Lines Flight 123 by Ron Schleede
Genre: non-fiction

4D (40) Smith Yau

In 1985, Japan Airlines (JAL) Flight 123 took off from Runway C-15-L at Tokyo International Airport. That plane was full of passengers. However, when he plane climbed to cruising altitude, they met trouble and crashed into a mountain, killing 520 person.

This book is about the disaster of JAL Flight 123, the ins and outs and the reasons of the crash.

In this story, I think Captain Masami Takahama is the hero, who was the captain of JAL Flight 123. He was also a senior training captain of JAL. In the story, he was calm when his plane faced danger, and with his knowledge, he kept the damaged plane flying for 32 minutes. Naturally, there were others who had contributed to preventing the plane from crashing and ensuring the safety of the passengers.

In this book, I think the ins and outs of the crash is the most important chapters in the book, which are also my favorite part of the book. When the pilots knew they were getting into trouble, they did not back down. With their amazing flying skills, they kept flying he damaged plane for 32 minutes. During which the flight attendants kept the passengers calm. Therefore, those chapters show the teamwork of the crew which carried through firmly to the end.

I think this book is great, because it can show the scenario of air crash. As it involves physics and engineering, it is difficult to express in words. However, the author had a great method of using pictures to express the abstract, e.g., how air pressure damaged the plane.

This book is interesting and useful to me, because my dream job is to be a pilot, so I can learn more about flying, physics, engineering and aviation history from reading this book. I will recommend this book to others.

Characters:   Willy Wonka, Charlie Bucket and four other children.

Personal Opinions

Willy Wonka hates his father and he thought all parents in the world are bad. But I think it is not  easy for our parents to bring us up. It takes a lot of money and love. They devote unlimited love to us and have our interests in mind in everything.
The character I like best in the book is Charlie. I admire him a lot.
After reading this book, I found it very fascinating. On the other hand, there are many descriptive words in it and I learned a lot.
